Servant Leadership
Installation of EXCO 2005-2006
by Area D3 Governor, Yeo Chai Tun ATM-S CL
I am honored and privileged this evening
to stand in front of distinguished guests and members of Toa Payoh Central CC TMC for this auspicious Annual Installation Ceremony of our incoming Club Executive Committee(we at times called as( EXCO). I am in Cloud 9 this evening because I am installing a group of very committed individuals from my home club in the capacity as their Area D3 Governor.
For those who had served in previous Club Excos,
you would agree with me that we have learned much from getting involved in running Toastmaster Club activities. You have the opportunity to apply communication skills in servant leadership roles.
The Servant Leadership philosophy
suggests that every person can become a leader by first, serving and then through conscious choice, leading. This has, time and time, again reflected in our Division D's slogans and the slogan for the new term is quite a familiar one, "Make Members Matter." In a nutshell, servant leadership is about leading with a mindset of a servant to fellow club members.
The key to be an effective servant leader
is to master the application of Toastmasters International's Core Values i.e. Integrity, Dedication to Excellence, Service to Member and Respect for the Individual in your decisions pertaining to the vision for the club future, and planning and operations of the Club activities.
For those of you who are serving for the first time,
you need not feel pressurized over the heavy responsibilities you would be shouldering because Club 8046 has been in existence for more than 7 years, there are many past club leaders who are still around today and they can be your resource persons.
